Crustose saxicolous and epiphytic, on anthropogenic substrates, rarely on calcareous rock and usuallly on bark trees. (For some authors, Caloplaca holocarpa, epiphytic habitus=C. pyracea)
Note: apothecia 0,4(0,8) mm, spores 10-16 x 5-8 micras, septum 3-5 micras:
