Squamulose, saxicolous on calcareous rocks.
Note: peltate squamules 1-4 mm high, 1-2 mm wide. The surface of the squamules is smooth or may become distinctly granulose (Schultz 2009).
Large photobiont cells and eroding thallus surface with granulose or club-shaped outgrowths:
