Squamulose, on calcareous rocks, in fissures and cavities.
Note: with imbricate squamules. Heteroplacidium divisum occurs in semiarid or dry regions. The species is very scarce in the Iberian Peninsula, with scattered occurrences in the southeast of Spain and the Balearic Islands. It is very rare worldwide, distributed mainly in Mediterranean regions, occurring in Croatia, France, and Turkey (Prieto et al. 2010).
